THE A-Z OF MARTIN SCORSESE
Q - QUEENS AND GOODFELLAS
The suburb was Scorsese’s childhood home and it’s the boyhood home of Ray Liotta’s aspiring gangster, Henry Hill, in GoodFellas (shot on 32nd Street in Astoria). Queens is the location for a whole mess of mob mayhem in GoodFellas, from the beating of Billy Batts to the heist at LaGuardia, but the adaptation of Nicholas Pileggi’s Wiseguy has enough to go around all the boroughs. Of the movies Scorsese made in New York, GoodFellas is the greatest period piece, a Cadillac ride through back streets mob culture.

Jake (Robert De Niro) asks Joey (Joe Pesci) “Did you fuck my wife?”. Director Martin Scorsese didn’t think that Pesci’s reaction was strong enough, so he asked De Niro to say “Did you fuck your mother?”
